Roy Clunie

Northern Scotland

Roy supports the Academy in delivering leadership programmes for old and young. He is an associate consultant with Imani Development, an employee-owned economic and development consultancy partnering with our South African hub.

Roy is one of the concept holders and past Chairman of Atlantis Leisure; a successful Oban-based social enterprise. He has been involved in supporting the set up of a number of other health and youth-based organisations, whilst continually supporting the Academy as an Associate Tutor. He has also completed the post graduate diploma in social enterprise as part of a Masters degree with the Academy and Glasgow Caledonian University.

Roy started his business life by leaving school to join a West Highland farming cooperative as a trainee manager. He later set up his own printing business, which expanded to include office supplies and signage. Roy sold his business in 2009 to focus on his interests in the third sector and social enterprise in particular.

In 2004, he helped to start a community youth charity, H2O, where he is currently a director and a past chairman. Roy is a founding director of a community health initiative, Lorn & Oban Healthy Options Ltd, which started in 2011.

Roy's work with Imani Development has been diverse - from start-up assistance for a new social enterprise to co-designing and delivering learning programmes on fair trade and business development for smallholder producers in Kenya and Uganda, also delivering learning programmes on behalf of Imani and the Academy in Malawi.
