My early career began in the private sector, roles in accountancy and providing executive assistance to directors and partners.
I attended university and completed an HND in Accountancy and part qualified as an Accountant, before starting my own business in Market Research Consultancy when my children were small. I had a successful business for 15 years before accepting a position in Accountancy in the Education sector where I got promoted to various roles such as Communication Manager, and latterly Personal Assistant to a senior Executive Director organising events, symposiums and workshops. During this time I also managed and facilitated various workshops for the Midlothian Science Festival in the early stages of its development, and ran focus groups for clients – public and private sector.
Through changes in personal circumstances and a life-changing visit to Kenya and Uganda, made me rethink the direction I wanted my career to go and I am thrilled that this led me to the amazing work the Social Enterprise Academy does and assisting Neil McLean, CEO as his executive personal assistant. My role is to assist the CEO, and the Board of Trustees, stakeholders, and the team as a whole.
My role allows me to gain insight and knowledge into the whole business holistically. I am delighted to be working for such an amazing social enterprise organisation and it is exactly the direction of career I sought.
