Stepping into work through enterprise
Social enterprise in colleges can give people of different ages the chance to think creatively about work and what they want to contribute to their community.
It gives them practical experience whilst developing their skills for learning, life and work.
Forth Valley College gets enterprisingly creative
Campus Crafts is one of three social enterprises run by students at Forth Valley College. The business sells products made by both students and staff across the college as well as being an outlet for many local craftspeople. High quality products and good customer service are keystones for the business and students learn the skills associated with both manufacturing and retail during their two-year course.
For many individuals, it has offered a way back into work through building confidence and self-esteem. It provides a supportive and inclusive environment which nurtures talent and develops employability skills. Two students have also made plans for developing their own ideas and selling through Campus Crafts.
