What is ‘Inclusive Islands’?
“Inclusive Islands” is boosting Indonesia’s impact support ecosystem, uniting social enterprise experience from island communities of Scotland to Indonesia - the world’s largest island archipelago.
We’re thrilled to be collaborating with PLUS - Platform Usaha Sosial and British Council Indonesia as part of British Council's DICE programme.
The 12-month programme involves 20 selected participants from Medan, Jayapura, Makassar, Pontianak and Padang, who are taking part in a social enterprise bootcamp for 5 days in Jakarta. They will then participate in online learning and development for enterprise and community development assistance, so that at the end of the programme, 4 selected ‘Impact Initiators’ can launch and run social enterprises offline in communities in their respective regions.
Inclusive Islands Bootcamp in Jakarta: 1 – 5 July 2019
Throughout the 5 days, learners looked at the role cultural identity plays in social enterprise, as well as exploring key themes and challenges around; social entrepreneurship, leadership, ecosystems of support for social enterprise around the globe, and building the ecosystem across Indonesia.
The bootcamp also included a social enterprise panel with guest speakers from local social enterprise support organisations including; Jalal from Social Investment Indonesia, William Gondokusumo and Evaulia Nindya Kirana from Campaign.com, Sarah Ramadhita from British Council Indonesia, Dewi Meisari from UKM Indonesia, William Hendradjaja from Impact Hub Jakarta and Louise Patricia Esmeralda from Social Corporate Lawyer Society (Socolas).
The bootcamp was delivered by Social Enterprise Academy Facilitator, Anne Martin, who herself is a creative social entrepreneur and established Scottish Gaelic singer from the Isle of Skye (pictured above).
Inclusive Islands has allowed participants to develop community of practice that can support each other as they continue on their social enteprirse journey. The programme will even out the distribution of support for social enterprise in Indonesia, developing participants as strong community leaders that will contribute beyond their own organisation – helping to build the social and creative enterprise ecosystem in their local area.
A huge thank you and well done to all of the bootcamp participants. Your energy, passion and commitment across the 5 days was incredible and we can't wait to see what you go on to achieve in the coming months!
